Continuous Glucose Monitors

Skin-worn glucose sensors increasingly marketed to people without diabetes, assessed in a published systematic review.

Continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) are skin-worn sensors that estimate glucose in the fluid under the skin around the clock. Developed and validated for diabetes care, they are now sold to people without diabetes as a lifestyle tool.

What published research reports

A 2025 systematic review in the journal Sensors examined CGM use in people without diabetes and reported that while the devices reliably capture glucose patterns, evidence that CGM feedback improves health outcomes in non-diabetic users is limited and preliminary, with few controlled trials and no established reference ranges for what "optimal" glucose variation looks like in healthy people. In diabetes care, by contrast, CGM use is supported by large trials and is part of published standards of care. Glucose responses to identical meals also vary widely between individuals in the published literature, which complicates interpreting single readings.
