How to Perform

  1. Move sideways by crossing the trail foot in front of the lead foot, then behind it, alternating.
  2. Keep the hips rotating freely while the shoulders stay square to the front.
  3. Stay on the balls of the feet with a quick, even rhythm.
  4. Cover the set distance, then lead with the other side coming back.

Coaching Cues

  • Hips swivel, shoulders stay quiet.
  • Drive the crossing knee up and across on the front step.
  • Light feet — tap-tap rhythm, no thudding.

Common Mistakes

  • Turning the shoulders with every step.
  • Dragging the feet and losing the rhythm.
  • Staying flat-footed and slow.

Progressions & Regressions

No items found.
Progressions
Increase tempo toward a run, exaggerate the knee-across drive, or finish each length with a sprint exit.
Regressions
Walk the pattern slowly until the sequence is automatic.

When to Use It

When to use
In every speed and agility warm-up, and as movement prep before lateral plyometrics.
When not to use
Rarely contraindicated; keep it slow during groin injury return.
Programming
2 to 4 lengths of 10 to 20 metres per side within a warm-up.
