How to Perform

  1. From the stance, plant the ball of the lead foot firmly.
  2. Push with the rear foot and swing it around the lead foot, rotating the whole body.
  3. Keep the hands in guard and the head over the lead foot as the body turns.
  4. Finish square to the new angle, balanced and ready to punch.

Coaching Cues

  • “Lead foot is the axle; the back foot is the wheel.”
  • “Hands stay up through the turn.”
  • “Pivot after you punch, not before.”

Common Mistakes

  • Pivoting on the heel, which is slow and unstable.
  • Standing tall during the pivot, which telegraphs it.
