How to Perform

  1. Chamber the knee as if throwing a roundhouse or a side kick to disguise the intent.
  2. Extend the leg past the outside of the target with the knee slightly bent.
  3. Snap the lower leg back across the target, striking with the heel or the sole.
  4. Recoil and set down in a balanced fighting stance.

Coaching Cues

  • “Go past it, then bring it back.”
  • “Disguise the chamber; that is where the deception lives.”
  • “Strike with the heel.”

Common Mistakes

  • Hooking too early so the kick arrives before it has passed the target.
  • Over-rotating and finishing with the back to the opponent.

Progressions & Regressions

Progressions
Add it behind a roundhouse feint, then a spinning version, then a jumping version.
Regressions
Practise the extension and hook slowly at low height.

When to Use It

When to use
Technical kicking blocks, paddle work and sparring preparation.
When not to use
Hip, groin or knee injury, or when hip mobility does not yet allow the height required.
Programming
3–5 sets of 8–12 kicks per leg, quality first, full recovery between sets.
