How to Perform

  1. Throw the jab and cross, keeping the feet set.
  2. Immediately slip to the outside of the expected return punch, moving the head only a few centimetres.
  3. From the slipped position, throw the cross again into the gap the slip created.
  4. Reset the guard, then pivot or step out.

Coaching Cues

  • “Punch, then move your head. Every time.”
  • “Small slip, quick return.”
  • “The slip is the set-up for the counter.”

Common Mistakes

  • Standing still after punching, which is the habit this drill exists to break.
  • Over-slipping so the return cross cannot reach.
