How to Perform

  1. Hold a tight guard with the rear hand ready to receive.
  2. Catch the incoming jab in the rear glove without reaching forward.
  3. As the punch lands in the glove, fire the counter with the other hand.
  4. Reset to the guard and re-establish distance.

Coaching Cues

  • “Catch it, do not chase it.”
  • “Counter on the catch, not after it.”
  • “Feet stay set so the counter has power.”

Common Mistakes

  • Catching and then pausing, which gives the opponent time to reset.
  • Reaching forward for the catch and leaving the head exposed.
