How to Perform

  1. Agree the numbering: One is the jab, two the cross, three the lead hook, four the rear hook, five and six the uppercuts.
  2. A coach or timer calls a sequence such as one-two-three.
  3. Execute the sequence in the correct order, returning to the guard afterwards.
  4. Progress from called sequences to self-selected sequences under time pressure.

Coaching Cues

  • “Say the numbers back before you throw them.”
  • “Finish every sequence in the guard.”
  • “Move the feet between sequences.”

Common Mistakes

  • Learning the numbers without ever executing them under pressure.
  • Rushing the last punch of the sequence so it lands without balance.

Progressions & Regressions

Progressions
Increase sequence length, then add defensive movements between punches, then make the calls reactive.
Regressions
Work two-punch sequences only, at half speed.

When to use
Technical rounds, pad work and bag work in a striking session.
When not to use
Hand, wrist or shoulder injury, or any suspected concussion.
