Overview

Purpose. Rehearse complete technique with full attention and zero impact, which is the condition under which technical change happens most readily.

How it fits the system. The technical solo round of the Combat Sports section, more structured than free shadow boxing. Related work in the library: Shadow Boxing and Mirror Shadow Boxing.

How to Perform

  1. Set a timer for two or three minutes and choose two or three techniques to focus on.
  2. Move around an imagined opponent at genuine punching range, not vaguely in space.
  3. Throw each punch with full extension, full rotation and a complete return to the guard.
  4. Add defensive movement between combinations, and finish the round with two full-speed sequences.

Coaching Cues

  • “Fight someone, not the air.”
  • “Full return to guard after every punch.”
  • “Pick two things to fix and fix them.”

Common Mistakes

  • Drifting into loose arm-waving, which grooves an incomplete technique.
  • Throwing at half range and half rotation, which shortens the punch permanently.

Progressions & Regressions

Progressions
Add round length, then use a mirror, then film the round and review it.
Regressions
Work single techniques repeatedly rather than free sequences.

When to Use It

When to use
Home training, warm-ups, technical maintenance and conditioning rounds.
When not to use
When the pattern is unknown, because solo practice consolidates whatever is repeated.
Programming
3–6 rounds of 2–3 minutes with 60 seconds rest. Suitable daily.
