How to Perform

  1. Stand at a distance from the mirror where a full jab almost reaches the glass.
  2. Work single punches first, checking the guard hand, the chin position and the punch path.
  3. Progress to combinations, watching whether the guard drops as the sequence lengthens.
  4. Finish by watching footwork only, ignoring the hands entirely.

Coaching Cues

  • “Watch the hand that is not punching.”
  • “Check the chin, not the fist.”
  • “One thing at a time. The mirror shows everything, so choose.”

Common Mistakes

  • Watching the punching hand, which is the one thing that is usually already correct.
  • Trying to fix five faults at once and fixing none.

Progressions & Regressions

Progressions
Alternate mirror rounds with eyes-closed rounds so the feeling replaces the image.
Regressions
Work single punches slowly with the coach pointing at what to watch.

When to Use It

When to use
Home training, warm-ups, technical maintenance and conditioning rounds.
When not to use
When the pattern is unknown, because solo practice consolidates whatever is repeated.
Programming
2–4 rounds of 2–3 minutes, usually before bag or pad work.
