How to Perform

  1. From the stance, lift the kicking knee towards the chest with the foot dorsiflexed.
  2. Push the hips forward and extend the leg, striking with the ball of the foot or the sole.
  3. Keep the hands up and lean the torso back slightly to counterbalance.
  4. Retract the leg along the same path and reset the stance immediately.

Coaching Cues

  • “Knee up first, then push.”
  • “Push through them, do not just touch them.”
  • “Bring it straight back so it cannot be caught.”

Common Mistakes

  • Swinging the leg up straight from the floor, which becomes a slow and catchable kick.
  • Leaving the leg extended, which invites a catch and a sweep.

Progressions & Regressions

Progressions
Progress to a lead-leg teep from a step, then a rear-leg teep, then a jumping teep.
Regressions
Practise the knee lift and extension slowly against a wall for balance.
