How to Perform

  1. Begin in your natural stance with the hands up and the feet light.
  2. Switch stances by stepping or hopping, keeping the hands in guard throughout the transition.
  3. Throw a punch immediately after landing in the new stance so the switch is never wasted.
  4. Alternate between stances for the full round, working both sides equally.

Coaching Cues

  • “Never switch and then pause.”
  • “Hands stay up through the switch.”
  • “Land already loaded on the new rear foot.”

Common Mistakes

  • Switching with a visible hop and no follow-up, which gives the opponent a free shot.
  • Only training the switch in one direction.

Progressions & Regressions

Progressions
Add combinations from each stance, then switch mid-combination, then use it in sparring.
Regressions
Practise the footwork of the switch slowly with no punches.

When to Use It

When to use
Home training, warm-ups, technical maintenance and conditioning rounds.
When not to use
When the pattern is unknown, because solo practice consolidates whatever is repeated.
Programming
3–5 rounds of 2 minutes with 45 seconds rest.
