How to Perform

  1. Start from a neutral standing position rather than a fighting stance.
  2. Drive the punching hand straight to the target while rotating the same-side hip forward.
  3. Keep the other hand up to protect the head and the chin tucked.
  4. Recover to a fighting stance and continue striking or disengage.

Coaching Cues

  • “Punch from wherever your hand is.”
  • “Rotate the hip, not just the shoulder.”
  • “Never throw one punch and stop.”

Common Mistakes

  • Waiting to establish a perfect stance, which costs the time the technique is designed to save.
  • Throwing a single strike rather than a continuous burst.

Progressions & Regressions

Progressions
Add it from unprepared positions, then while moving, then under partner pressure with protective gear.

When to use
Self-defence technique blocks and stress-inoculation drills.
When not to use
Any joint injury that prevents controlled striking, and always with a competent partner and protective equipment.
Programming
3–5 sets of 10–20 repetitions per side, then 2–3 rounds under pressure with a partner.
