How to Perform

  1. Throw the jab, stepping the lead foot slightly offline to open the kicking angle.
  2. Throw the cross with full rotation, allowing the rear foot to pivot.
  3. Continue the rotation directly into the rear-leg roundhouse kick.
  4. Recover to stance or continue the rotation if the kick is checked.

Coaching Cues

  • “The cross and the kick are the same rotation.”
  • “Step the lead foot out on the jab; that is what makes the kick possible.”
  • “Hands stay up when the kick lands.”

Common Mistakes

  • Stopping between the cross and the kick, which telegraphs the kick.
  • Failing to angle out on the jab, which means the kick has no room.

Progressions & Regressions

Progressions
Add a low-kick version, then a switch-kick finish, then add an elbow after a checked kick.
Regressions
Practise the cross-to-kick rotation slowly on a bag.
