How to Perform

  1. Throw a roundhouse kick to the body, keeping the support foot pivoted.
  2. Recoil the leg only partially and re-chamber immediately at a higher line.
  3. Throw the second roundhouse to the head or upper body without setting the foot down.
  4. Land in a balanced fighting stance ready to continue or exit.

Coaching Cues

  • “Do not put the foot down between kicks.”
  • “Second kick goes higher, not harder.”
  • “Keep the support foot turned over the whole time.”

Common Mistakes

  • Setting the foot down, which converts it into two separate slower kicks.
  • Losing balance on the second kick because the support foot has un-pivoted.

Progressions & Regressions

Progressions
Add speed, then a third kick, then vary the target lines between the two kicks.
Regressions
Practise a single roundhouse followed by a re-chamber with no second kick.

When to Use It

When to use
Technical kicking blocks, paddle work and sparring preparation.
When not to use
Hip, groin or knee injury, or when hip mobility does not yet allow the height required.
Programming
3–5 sets of 8–12 kicks per leg, quality first, full recovery between sets.
